I hated vegetables too. When I hired my first fitness coach he asked me to eat broccoli twice a day and asparagus for dinner. Nope. I was not pleased about that! But I did it and quickly felt the benefits! Here are a few reasons that we should eat our veggies:
- Vegetables as part of an overall healthy diet may reduce YOUR risk for heart disease, including heart attack and stroke, AND may protect against certain types of cancers.
- Vegetables are rich in fiber and may reduce the risk of heart disease, obesity, and type 2 diabetes.
- Eating vegetables rich in potassium as part of an overall healthy diet may lower blood pressure, and may also reduce the risk of developing kidney stones and help to decrease bone loss.
- vegetables are lower in calories per cup when compared to most foods and may be useful in helping to lower calorie intake.
so how many vegetable servings should you have per day? Here is an excellent resource from the United States Department on Agriculture: https://www.choosemyplate.gov/vegetables
MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH VEGETABLES:
I EAT THEM ALOT THESE DAYS! I FOUND THAT EATING VEGETABLES MADE ME FEEL BETTER! I WAS LESS BLOATED, FELT FULLER LONGER AFTER EATING, MY DIGESTION IMPROVED TREMENDOUSLY, AND I DEVELOPED A TASTE FOR THEM! I ACTUALLY CRAVE THEM NOW!
MY PERSONAL FAVORITES ARE BRUSSELS SPROUTS, SPINACH, BUTTERNUT SQUASH, AND ZUCCHINI
THREE TIPS FOR INCREASING VEGETABLE INTAKE:
#1 BE INTENTIONAL ABOUT IT. PLAN TO EAT THEM DAILY.
#2 TRY NEW RECIPES. THIS IS HOW I FOUND A LOVE FOR BRUSSELS SPROUTS AND BUTTERNUT SQUASH!
#3 SNEAK THEM INTO OTHER FOODS. I USE ZUCCHINI IN MY OATS TO ADD VOLUME. I CAN NOT EVEN TASTE THE ZUCCHINI! .
